Dwellingup provides probably the best longer riding options, thanks to the amazing trails created for the Dwellingup 100. Although not signposted, the ride combines Marrinup and Turner Hill trails making for a very solid long ride, that is easy enough to follow if you download the GPX to your Garmin. You can also use the munda biddi to link up the two trail networks.
Traditionally known as “Old Faithful” the ride heads out to Pickering Brook along the old rail line and then heads up to the top of Mount Gungin using the old Kattamorta trail. From the top of Mount Gungin head down Goldilocks, Muffin Tops, Horny Devil, Slippery When Dry and then head for Fern Road.
From Fern Road a series of unmarked trails return you to the Elevator at the bottom of Schipp Road and Hummerston Road. The Elevator as the name suggests heads straight up into Jorgensen Park and from there it is straight back to Kalamunda for a well earned drink. This ride will take in excess of 2 hours and contains plenty of single track, great views and a lot of hills.
The Kalamunda 50/50 is Perth’s biggest one-day mountain bike event run by Single Track Minds. Its takes in the best of the best of the Perth Hills starting and finishing at the fabulous Core Cider House in Pickering Brook. While that year’s course is always kept a closely guarded secret, here is a link to last years course.
